Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

ATARA ("we", "us", "our") is a personal "second brain" app that helps you capture, organize, and recall your thoughts, notes, photos, and schedule. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using ATARA, you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

  • Account information: your name and email address, used to create and manage your account.
  • Content you create: the thoughts, notes, tags, categories, photos, and other entries you capture ("Your Content").
  • Connected account data: when you connect a third-party account (Google Drive, Google Calendar, Gmail), we access only the data needed to provide the feature you enabled — for example, storing your captured photos in your Google Drive or showing your upcoming calendar events.
  • Usage data: basic information about how you interact with ATARA, used to operate, maintain, and improve the service.

How We Use Information

  • To provide the ATARA service — capturing, organizing, and surfacing Your Content.
  • To connect with services you explicitly authorize, and to act on your behalf only within the feature you enabled.
  • To communicate with you about your account, security, and service updates.
  • To maintain, secure, and improve ATARA.

Google API Services — Limited Use

ATARA's use of information received from Google API Services complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

  • We only transfer data received from Google API Services to a third party if it is necessary to provide or improve the feature you enabled, and only after you have explicitly authorized that connection.
  • We do not sell or use data received from Google API Services for advertising purposes.
  • We do not use data received from Google API Services to develop or improve models used to serve non-ATARA offerings.
  • We limit our use of data received from Google API Services to providing the feature you enabled (for example, saving your photo captures to your own Google Drive).

Connecting Google Services

Connecting a Google service is a separate action from signing in with Google, and each service is connected individually. When you connect one, ATARA shows what it will access and why before asking for your permission, and requests only the access needed for the feature you enable.

Google Drive

ATARA reads files you choose to attach and uploads your captured photos to a folder in your Drive. It does not browse or share the rest of your Drive.

Disconnect anytime from Connected Accounts in Settings, or in your Google account security settings.

Google Calendar

ATARA reads your upcoming and recent events and can create events for thoughts you schedule, so reminders and plans stay connected.

Disconnect anytime from Connected Accounts in Settings, or in your Google account security settings.

Gmail

ATARA sends reminder emails to you and reads replies to those reminders so it can follow up. It does not read other messages in your inbox.

Disconnect anytime from Connected Accounts in Settings, or in your Google account security settings.

Data Storage and Security

Your Content is stored on secure cloud infrastructure. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is fully secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention and Deletion

We retain Your Content for as long as your account is active. You may delete individual entries at any time, and when you opt into automatic cleanup of old attachments, ATARA will remove them on the schedule you choose. Deleting your account removes Your Content stored by ATARA. Photos stored in your own Google Drive remain in your Drive and are governed by your Google account.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell your information. We share information only: (a) with service providers who help us operate ATARA (such as cloud hosting), under confidentiality obligations; (b) to comply with legal obligations; or (c) with your consent. When you connect a third-party service, that connection is governed by that provider's terms and privacy policy as well.

Your Rights and Choices

You can access, export, and delete Your Content through ATARA's settings. You can disconnect any connected account at any time, which revokes ATARA's access to that service. You can also manage permissions directly in your Google account security settings.

Children

ATARA is not directed to children under 16 and is not intended for their use. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
